Rooted in the ministry of deaf education, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet’s American founding began in 1836 when three Sisters of St. Joseph from France took up residence in a humble log cabin in the Missouri village of Carondelet to teach the deaf.
Today the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are called to continue their Gospel mission and ministry of “serving the dear neighbor without distinction” through building right relationships with the sacred, with the Earth, with one another and with the church.
And, in the spirit of their founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet continue their sponsorship and support of SJI and the mission of helping children discover their voice.
