A good learning plan starts with a good assessment
Most people who are planning a trip to a new destination look at a map, maybe read a guidebook or doing some online research to familiarize themselves with their travel plans. St. Joseph Institute Evaluation Services help you “map” out your child’s educational journey through comprehensive language and learning evaluations.
The evaluations are a team effort – teachers, speech language pathologists, audiologist and a psychologist all take part in the testing, analysis and communication of findings with the parents.
Whether you are considering SJI or not, the evaluation can help shed light on:
- Overall progress in language development and academic skills
- Other possible learning challenges
- Potential education placement and support services
- Teaching approaches that may help your child learn.
Learning Profiles
When your child enters SJI they receive cognitive, language and academic testing to evaluate learning styles, as well a to identify specific strengths and challenges.
These comprehensive learning profiles are shared with parents, students and educators to enhance learning retention, strengthen academic weaknesses and underlying processing functions and further develop strengths and talents.
For children with learning differences, e.g. language processing disorders, language delays and memory deficits, a structured teaching curriculum and methodologies are used to enhance language and learning skills.
Psycho educational Services
In keeping with a philosophy of holistic education, SJI has an on-site licensed psychologist with special expertise in diagnosing learning differences in children with hearing loss, as well as understanding any emotional or developmental issues that may arise.
The psychologist works closely with teachers and therapists to develop an individualized program that meets the educational, developmental and emotional needs of each student.
Family sessions are also available to help families cope with the emotional and educational effects of a child’s hearing loss.
