Opening Your Child’s World–Together with SJI

At St. Joseph Institute-Indianapolis, our auditory-oral specialists have expertise in helping babies and toddlers develop a foundation for language development and in helping parents learn about their child’s hearing loss–a combination that provides you and your child the best opportunity to have a voice in the future.

Typically, these specialists work in the family home (or another natural environment) once or twice per week. Often, these sessions are funded through the state-administered First Steps program as early intervention services. Parents are also encouraged to attend play-group sessions and parent education meetings to meet with other families for support.

When children are ready to transition to preschool, the staff discusses the options for communication and education and develops a plan with the family to decide whether your child will attend preschool at SJI-I, at the public school, or any other options you may choose.
