Our Educational Model
St. Joseph Institute’s accredited curriculum and specialized programs offer preschool and elementary students with hearing loss the tools and support to reach their full academic potential.
Focused on listening and spoken language, SJI offers an intensive, language-rich curriculum, individualized speech therapy and comprehensive audiology services.
Classes are taught by professionally certified deaf educators adept at providing hands-on learning experiences. To supplement the challenging core subjects, SJI rounds out the curriculum with enrichment classes such as computer, fine arts and library and with personal and community growth experiences such asathletics, field trips, performances and special events.

SJI offers academic programs at three campuses: the St. Louis, Missouri (preschooler through eighth grade) and the Lenexa, Kansas and Indianapolis, Indiana (preschooler through early elementary).
SJI is the only school for the deaf to be fully accredited by the prestigious Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).
