Located in Lenexa, KS, a suburb of Greater Kansas City, SJI-KC is a campus of St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, offering students with hearing loss an exclusively auditory-oral education taught by Listening and Spoken Language Specialists.
- Children are eligible for preschool, pre-k, kindergarten and lower primary classes.
- Our school calendar mirrors local school district schedules with full-time students attending Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Children receive intensive listening and spoken language instruction through play and direct teaching in classrooms with a small student-teacher ratio (6:1).
- Students are taught a full complement of academic subjects by trained educators of the deaf with core subjects supplemented by classes in music, computer lab, and library.
- Through a collaborative approach, academic and therapy staff members give children an expanding base of listening and spoken language skills upon which all their communication and learning skills are built.
- Teachers set high expectations for students and assist them in achieving their potential.
- Parents also learn through participation in weekly therapy and classroom sessions with their child.
