Indy Kids Directory is a resource guide for parents living in and around the Indianapolis area. Each month, SJI-Indy partners with Indy Kids Directory to put a spotlight on the great work our students and staff do every day. Our educators often share great tips for parents and professionals.
This month, SJI’s own Speech-Language Pathologist Kristin Schaaf talks about book variations written on the classic children’s nursery rhyme The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. In two examples, the authors tie into the season where the Old Lady swallows leaves, or for Thanksgiving, where the lady swallows a pie.
This provides children the comfort of familiarity on a subject they already know (the nursery rhyme) while allowing them to learn about new subjects. Find out what else Kristin has to say!
