What is Possible with Listening and Spoken Language?
With optimal access to sound through hearing technology and appropriate intervention, children with hearing loss can learn to listen and talk.
How can we help?
We will help you become the primary language teacher for your child using specialized listening and spoken language strategies. Our Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) providers offer in-home early intervention services through Indiana and Missouri First Steps. They will work with you in person or through telepractice and collaborate with your pediatric audiologist.
When do I start?
Studies show that children with hearing loss who start using hearing technology and enroll in Listening and Spoken Language intervention early can develop age-appropriate speech and language. Many families begin as early as 2 months old and achieve age-appropriate language skills by 3 years of age. For additional research, check out Hearing First's Mission Probable.
What's next?
If your child is under 3 and not currently enrolled in First Steps, select your state and make a referral.
