Teaching Assistant

The Teaching Assistant works with the classroom teachers and Speech Language Pathologists to ensure the classroom runs smoothly and learning is supported by appropriate activities and lessons under the supervision of the classroom Teacher/SLP. This position follows the academic calendar of 194 days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in the classroom, as determined by the classroom teacher.
  • Support the students during classroom activities and lessons to ensure the best learning environment.
  • Follow all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and quality standards.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students, family and St. Joseph information, adhering closely to HIPPA standards of practice.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Provide any duty necessary for the smooth functioning of the program.

  • Excellent communication skills, patience, and a desire to work with children.
  • Ability to take direction and apply those directions in the classroom and in the preparation of classroom materials.
  • Willing and able to assist young children with various tasks.
  • Ability to use strong cleaning and disinfecting products.

Education and Experience:

  • Additional education beyond a high school diploma is desired but not required.
  • Previous experience working in a daycare setting with children is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, collaboration, and a positive rapport with co-workers and children.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid Indiana Driver's License.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: From $16.00 per hour

Schedule:  Day shift 7:45am -3:45pm

Ability to commute/relocate:  Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)
