Cheryl Broekelmann, MA, LSLS Cert AVEd, will share her research findings about children with multiple disabilities this weekend at the AG Bell conference in Denver, CO.  Below is the abstract which indicates exciting results for children who may have struggled in typical learning environments.

iHear is an internet therapy program designed to provide listening and spoken language therapy for children who have hearing loss ages 0-18 and their families. Through live online sessions specifically tailored  to each  individual child, every child, everywhere can benefit from an LSLS trained therapist in their home, daycare center or school.

A recent analysis of our population revealed that 25% of children receiving services have additional known disabilities. SJI found that more than 90% of children ages 0-18 who are deaf or hard of hearing, including children with identified learning differences, made  positive gains towards individual goals according to standardized assessments or data received from IEP/IFSP goals.  Cheryl Broekelmann, MA, LSLS Cert AVEd, Director of St Louis Operations and iHear states, “We are so excited to be part of the solution for these little guys.  For families who have children with hearing loss in addition to additional disabilities connecting with a therapist who is trained to develop listening skills and understand the small incremental changes the iHear program can be life-changing.  For the children who are mainstreamed in their neighborhood school the support of an iHear therapist can help the child stay in their neighborhood schools.”  [blockquote type=”left”]“My daughter responds much slower that most kids, so I can only imagine that a kid with only hearing impairments would respond amazingly well to this therapy.  We have LOVED having access to it and the learning and growth it has given our daughter and family.” Mom of a child in the program[/blockquote]
